Self Introduction Video
Here’s me just doing a basic introduction of myself in Korean. This is my first video posting to YouTube so hopefully it works fine.
I also learned how to add subtitles to movies so I created and added them. If you would like to see English or Korean subtitles with the movie, click the video to open the YouTube website and click the button at the bottom right of the video to select the appropriate language.
If all goes well, I’ll most likely be doing a video every once in a while. Enjoy!

Hello everyone, my name is Matt Strum. I’m American and 23 years old. I was born in ‘85. I’ve lived in a lot of places. Since my dad worked for the U.S. Air Force, I’ve lived in Florida, Texas, Ohio, New York, Maryland, and Alaska. So, I’ve seen a lot of America. Also, since I taught Koreans in Canada for two years, I lived in Vancouver. I absolutely love languages. I’ve learned German, French, Chinese, and Korean. The foods I like the most are Spicy rice cake, spicy stew, kimbap black bean noodles, pork wraps, BBQ beef, vegetable mixed noodles, and flat-cake. I really want yo eat those right now! As for my hobbies, I program a lot. I make software and sell it online. It’s diary software. I like to watch Korean movies and dramas, hang out with friends, do sports (especially Ultimate Frisbee, tennis and running). When school’s not busy, I run 4 miles every day. I’m attending University right now. My major is Computer Engineering. I’m also studying business and Korean.
I’ve studied Korean for 3 years, but I’ve never been to Korea It’s sad, isn’t it? I love the Korean people, culture, country, everything. I’m watching The Devil right now. you’ll really like it. Other than that, I like Full House, Jewel in the Palace, Fantasy Couple, & Soulmate. A lot of Koreans don’t know Soulmate, but try watching it, it’s really fun. I really like 200 Pound Beauty, My Sassy Girl and The Classic. I think The Classic is the best. As for music, I like Big Bang and Epik High. These days, I really like Big Bang’s new song. The title is something like ‘Sunset Glow’.
My dream is to go to Korea. I might go to Seoul National University in a year but since my Korean isn’t that good, I need to practice a lot. So, I’ll make things like this and study a lot over the next year.
Why did I make this? Maybe I’ll look at it in a year and laugh and see how much I’ve progressed. I write about Korea every day in my blog about the dramas and movies I watched, vocabulary, or culture. I’ll write every day in that. If you want to read it, go to: http://www.mstrum.com/onmywaytokorea Have a good day, bye!

Okay, so basically I really just wanted to tackle you after coming across this video on youtube, which of course led me here, and all for one simple reason.
I am 100% addicted and in love with the Korean culture and language, for about 4 months now, and have this burning desire to live in Korea. So coming across your video really inspired me because I now know I’m not the only person.
I appologize if that was a bit odd coming from a person you don’t even know.
So I suppose what I really want to say is 감사합니다!! Good luck on getting to Korea! 화이팅!!
Hi Matt, I found your video during my little search for videos talking about the common mistakes in English. Sure you didn’t intend, but your video is absolutely hilarious and wonderfully educative. One example , “stand up and crapping!”, is just simply killing me! It took me for a while to find my lost belly button…
Yes, you are absolutely correct. Language is the culture, well at least a major part of it. Therefore, it is difficult for Korean people to translate Korean to English without mistakes. In this context, your video is a great education to the people like me.
I live in Gaithersburg, MD, about 20 miles north from the DC border line. It’s been almost 14 years living in the States for a graduate degree and currently working for US government.
To find good materials for my little English teaching blog (http://fun-english.tistory.com/), I spend some time browsing YouTube everyday and your video will be a big hit for my blog readers (~ 400/day). Your video will be up for the readers in a couple of days if you don’t mind.
Greatly appreciate your effort for the wonderful video and hope to see more soon. Sincerely wish you a very happy year-end vacation and the terrific New Year as well!!!
Signalhunt
no problem Signalhunt, I don’t mind anyone posting this or any of my videos anywhere else. I’m glad you enjoyed it! And yes, I still make fun of the friend who said that ^^.
It is so much fun hearing you speak Korean. I attended Yonsei’s 한국어학당 in 서울from 1970 – 1972 and then married a Korean woman who spoke no English. Korean is my only 2nd language. 여즘은 한국말 연습 하국 여자하고 많이 해요. I meet people mainly on Koreanfriendfinders and on Livemocha.com and Koreans are almost always flabberghasted to find an american who speaks Korean and they always treat me so well – it is a really great feeling. I generally write at leas one email in Korean each day and I love to watch the chat room when korean people get together and chat in 한글 . I can’t read Korean as fast as it appears when it is in advertisements that stream across signs, but i keep practicing. Actually my future is quite questionable since i was dagnosed with a sever heart disease, but i am enjoying relearning and learning more and more each day for the fun of it…
One thing i often have difficulty with is remembering spanish words from the spanish words I studied in high school 40 years go… and often my kids will say to me something like “what is Algo in Spanish ” and immediately my mind says ” It is – I know … ” LOL but of course that’s Korean. So i wonder how you separate the different languages in your head? and do you ever find yourself confusing them like i do with spanish and Korean?
Cool.. Good job.
