Here is just a quick recap of all of the ‘A’ vocab words (~1000 most common words) that I have learned from the Korean Essential 6000 words. They are listed in Korean alphabetical order.
노란색 = yellow (yes, for some reason I learned weird words like 독학 but I still don’t know my colors ㅋㅋㅋ)
마흔 = 40 (korean rooted), used mostly for hours or age (though I think even Koreans stop using the Korean rooted numbers after a while, it’s a lot easier to use the Chinese rooted numbers)
못하다 = to be inferior / below (someone)
못하다 = to be impossible
서른 = 30 (Korean rooted)
세수하다 = to wash one’s face
수건 = towel
수박 = watermelon
술 = spoonful (same spelling as alcohol)
쉰 = 50 (Korean rooted)
안다 = to hug (also see Free Hugs in Korea)
여권 = passport
여든 = 80 (Korean rooted)
예순 = 60 (Korean rooted)
일흔 = 70 (Korean rooted)
지우다 = to erase
지우개 = eraser
정류장 = stop (station)
칫솔 = toothbrush

Hey Matt,
Just thought it was awesome how much Korean you seem to have picked up without years upon years of formal training. Are you taking classes for it now or just learning on your own?
I started with three months of training (out of school), 21 months dedicated to teaching Koreans (teaching English half of the time and speaking Korean the other half), and I’ve taken 3rd year Korean classes at my university. Next semester I’ll be doing a business Korean class which I’m pretty excited about since that’s more of what I’m interested in (for practicality).
