New wiki on the way

I have successfully installed MediaWiki (what’s used for Wikipedia) in a sub-directory of this blog (it’s not too hard to guess what the name of that directory might be called … if you do search for it please remember it’s under construction ^^).  It’s going to primarily be a Korean language-learning wiki that (most likely just) I will contribute to but will be open so anyone can add new pages or edit current ones.  I know that there is a lot of information out there on Wikipedia and other great sources for learning about Korea but I thought it might be good to have a wiki solely for the purpose of propagating information about the Korean language (and yes, some culture).

I have wrestled with where it fits in with this blog (which is fairly new itself) and have decided that both are great mediums and can serve different purposes.  While my blog is a linear record of what I have learned (and other such things like popular media), the wiki will be a knowledge bank. Once I have it set up and have decided how it’ll be organized I’ll officially launch it and add a link to this blog.  I think this will be a great way to share knowledge and include information you don’t normally find in dictionaries.

And of course, it’s a great opportunity for me to branch out and try new technologies (after all, I am a techy).

  1. Hi, Matt. I like your blog and have added you to my RSS feed.

Have you been over to http://wiki.galbijim.com/Main_Page ?

Galbijim is a wiki about Korea that’s been around for a while, and has quite a bit of info already in it.

In other news, I put links to a couple of your articles on the comment forum at hub of sparkle.

Yeah, I have seen the Galbijim site and it is a great project. As a techy, I’m having fun learning how to set up MediaWiki and such things.

Thanks for the linkage! You are quite the blogger, it’s amazing that you’ve been up since 2000, congrats. That’s quite an achievement.
