For all those planning on teaching English, I would highly suggest checking out the many stories of English teachers who have had bad experiences. Not because you should scare yourself strait, but you should really know what might happen while you’re over there. I’ve heard stories like this far too often for it to be one isolated story. Head over to the Stray Blog to check it out. Quite frankly, I don’t want to teach English in Korea for many reasons. I am hoping that I will be able to find a tech internship or something, but even internships with the big companies like Hyundai, LG or SK have always turned into a position where you’re just expected to help in the English department. Is that all foreigners are good for in Korea?

Hey there,
Nice to know you’re reading Stray – our blogrolls are almost identical, for the record
The main fact to consider is that the people having a bad time aren’t hiding the fact. Horror stories are a-plenty – and I’ve heard some doozies in my time. But the other side of the story isn’t always or necessarily being heard.
If you’re loving life and living it up in Korea, you’re probably too busy to write about it / spread the news. Perhaps you fear being dragged down by the various pessimists / pessimistic things happening in the world. Whether you draw your strength from a religion or personal character, your attitude towards your situation is under your control. Remember that, and nothing Korea can do can touch you.

Good blogroll
Yeah, I’ve always felt that happiness is totally under one’s own control. I have pondered that point for many years which has helped me in dealing with leaving my church (you can reference my previous post titled 몰몬교의 숨은 역사).
I believe that I’ll have a good time no matter what I do. I know that I need to go with the will to do my best with whatever situation I face and yet feel that I need to know that there will be certain setbacks no matter what I do. Like many others who study from afar, I have a deep love of Korea without any first hand knowledge. I have to make sure to keep a mindset such that I’m ready for anything to happen.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment.
