Spotlight on Korean: Dialects

Want to learn about the various dialects of Korean?  Why would you want to learn a dialect?  Here’s one example showing the different ways to say dragonfly (잠자리):

  1. I don’t know anything about editing Wikis and don’t really have the motivation to make an account (shoot me lol) but I can tell you a slight bit about the 충청 dialect. It’s supposedly slower than other dialects, but personally I don’t hear that. I was unfortunately only able to hear it from taxi drivers (I’m guessing it may not be commonly used among youth), but instead of a 아요/어요 at the end of a regular statement they’ll use a long, drawn-out 유, even in the past tense (쓔). It totally threw me off the first time I was in the cab and the driver was talking to me like that. To me the dialect sounds rather old-fashioned. It should also be noted that the intonations are very similar to the standard dialect. Hope this helps.
