Thanks 2,900,000 ~ 3,700,000 Won off. Moral of the story: Your budget just increased a ton if you were planning to live on campus. The reason for this is that more than half of the on-campus dorms are in construction and those rooms that are left are reserved for those from less privileged countries. So if you’re from America or Canada you’re probably guaranteed to not be able to stay on campus despite how little money you might have. Ugh. This reminds me of the days before I was a dependant on my tax forms when my federal financial aid depended on the money my parents made despite me paying for everything.
SNU dorms more than halved for 2010

Those of us from Singapore don’t get it either, I checked with SNU Housing. You’re opting for the private ones provided by SNU? Those are mad expensive. o.o
@Sarah
I applied but I don’t know if I’m going to accept or not. What are you going to do?
Oh you mean we can still choose to accept? Did you receive a reply from them upon applying?
I’m not too sure yet. I’m more towards sourcing for my own private housing. Maybe a Goshiwon or a One Room. But then again, I’ve never been to Korea and I’m pretty unfamiliar with how rentals go.
i also applied since they said “they have only 70 rooms for 130 exchange students”
Since I was at school I used English but… 지금은 집이라서 한글로 쓸래요 ^^ ㅋㅋ 무슨 과목 들을거에요? Since my major is Linguistics I am going to take lots of linguistics courses.
@Sarah
I don’t think they can force you to if you haven’t signed a contract. Until I’ve signed one, I’m not committed. A Goshiwon is a LOT more economical from what I’ve heard. The ONLY thing that makes me think twice, is that these look like really nice apartments … and I’ve heard if you can find a good appartment for $400 then you’re lucky. That would set you back $1200 for a semester though, which is only half what SNU is asking. I don’t understand why it’s so stinking expensive, isn’t university sponsored stuff supposed to be student priced? Just because we’re foreigners doesn’t mean we’re made of cash …
Hey.
I’m super annoyed with SNU too cos it’s like bursting your budget OVERNIGHT!! My friends and I are currently looking for alternative. With that sum of money SNU is asking for, I’m sure we can get some apartment At least…..
Really felt like writing a petition to them.
They seem to think that just cos’ we don’t come from the ‘least developed countries’, we’re alright with paying that amount, lol. Anyway I applied too, I’ll see what details and price they’re giving.
@Sarah
Which university are you from in Singapore? How much is the school charging you for your off-campus housing? Did they show you photos?
