Online SNU community blocks exchange students

We are officially the scum of the earth.  There has apparently been some ‘problems’ (don’t really know what they’re talking about since I haven’t seen any) which has nudged the pretty-much-official online SNU community to limit their services to exchange students.  One example of services that we, the hideous temporary students, are not allowed to partake in is reading about the clubs available at school.  Seriously?  Blocking the clubs page?  Also the forum for finding students to teach private lessons is blocked (hey, who said it was about the money?).  The blocking is more targeted to Koreans in Korea who temporarily study at SNU, but it blankets foreigner students also apparently.  Here’s their post with my response after …

To quote Roboseyo …
  1. Thats not cool at all.. But did you find out which clubs they are offering after all?

  2. I’m really sorry for your let down. As u know, the master of that comuunity originally intended to limit korean temporary student’s right, and they have tried to do so in the way of checking personally whether a certain user of the community is really student of the univ or not. But there were some problems; like someone who were not the student of univ pretended to be the student and got the private lesson information as if they were SNU student( I’m talking about the board you said above and I bet you know this funny thing what it means the SNU student in Korea.)
By the way, why didn’t u contact the master of community or ask a favor to your friends ^^? Many of ur friends seem like u. I felt it in some SNULIFE texts. following is the master’s email address and I think he will definitely allow your log on the community. I hope you don’t take our intention as we think you guys are scum -_-..we never..ㅋㅋㅋ you looks good to have many good friends except for 임채진? 한진자? they are real freak ㅋㅋㅋ and you gonna get hospitable help whenever you ask a favor to ur friends!(I know it is not of my business ^^ but just…i want you to settle your problems like blocking that mad stalkers or accessing SNULIFE more easily.) Watch out these horrible hot! and have fun in Korea.

  3. Hello Matt
I’m Heather,I just saw the video of the Daehak-dong neighborhood on youtube.I’d like to know exact location, and how long does it take Gangwon drugstore to SNU school?(by 5515A and 5515B bus)
May I know the dorm I applied is for girls only or mix?Big thanks for your help!

    • It doesn’t take very long to get to SNU. The 5515 bus stops at the main gate and you have to take a shuttle inside the school, walk, or transfer to a different bus. I’d say to get to the furthest part in SNU you need 30 minutes (it’s a big campus). The video I put on YouTube is the street where the 5515 bus goes down and is the main street going through Daehak-dong. The beginning of the video is by a place where a lot of people meet called ‘goshichon-eep-gu’

You’ll have to ask those kinds of specifics to SNU. I don’t know much about on-campus dorms and don’t live in the provided off-campus housing anymore.

  4. Hi Matt,
I will be an exchange student at SNU as of March 2012. I was doing some research on google for accommodation, and was redirected here. nice blog, btw!
As I was put on the waiting list for a room on-campus, I have to do the research on my own: so, may I ask you where you were living while in Seoul? I read you moved out of the provided off-campus housing?
Thanks in advance for your help!

    • I don’t have any of the details of where I stayed on me, I walked around and called the owners of the various apartment buildings until I found the cheapest place~
