Highlight on North Korean Military

Some of these were put together by real communists, long live the propaganda ;) . Anyways, I just thought some of you might be interested in seeing a little bit about North Korea and I these were interesting.

“Korean” Family (Mad TV)

I don’t even know where to begin with what’s wrong with this video, lol.

Overseas Ceremonies for Ex-South Korean President Roh

Shown above is is a picture of the late ex-South Korean President Noh behind flowers and incense given by the Korean students here at the University of Utah.  This remembrance took place for three days in the student union.  It was very touching to see something like this done to commemorate the life of their previous president.  This exemplifies the amazing love the Korean people have for their elders.  Even with being here with Korea out of sight, they still care enough to take some time out of their busy schedules to come here and pray for Noh.

The process of paying respect involved lighting some incense and saying a prayer.  I could smell the incense the minute I got into the student union building.  You could also write something on a post-it note which will be sent to Roh’s hometown.  Shown below are the notes of those who came to pay their respects for Noh.

Here’s another close-up shot of the place with the picture, flowers were and incense:

North Korea Scrapping the Armistice Agreement

North Korea is just keeping itself in the news lately hasn’t it?  If a Nuke and several missiles weren’t enough, they have reportedly scrapped the armistice agreement that was signed after the Korean War to stop the fighting.  It’s all up in the air right now, South Korean forces are at the second highest level of readiness.  Kim Jong-Il doesn’t like the fact that South Korea just joined the PSI, but I think he would find any excuse to show off how serious they are.  As Kim Jong-Il gets older, the question of who will replace him and how the regime will change in a stable manner is a major matter of concern.  We’ll see how them playing with fire pans out.

Ode to snacks: 요구르트

yogurt

This is my first post in a series where I’ll write about food as I think ‘man, this is sweet.  Everyone should try it!’  First up: 요구르트.  It’s cheap.  It’s sweet.  It’s addicting. I can’t even express in words how awesome 요구르트 is.  Even though it’s called yogurt, it’s a drink rather than it’s American-cousin.  They have a similar taste, but the make-up is very different.

Here a pack of 5 is about 79 cents, which is a little more expensive than I would like but it’s still alright.  Each one is small enough so that you could drink it in one shot if you wanted, but it’s too sweet for me to do that.  I’ve been having the regular flavor for years but I finally tried the Strawberry flavor today and I have to say, that one’s freaking good too.  If you haven’t tried it, go to your local Korean convenience store and get some.  Bored?  Buy a bunch and have a contest to see who can drink the most in the shortest time!
