Watching LOST after learning Korean

If y’all haven’t watched LOST, it’s a pretty good series.  I always heard about it, but I have never really seen it until recently.  One of my roommates asked me to translate what the Korean guy was saying.  To my surprise, they have two Koreans on the show who are main characters but don’t include English subtitles (I guess to give us a feel of what the English feel like).  The Korean guy in the part that I saw called the other guy an idiot and to go away.  I’ve just started to watch the show and I absolutely love it when I get to hear the Koreans speak.  The producers to a good enough job to make it so you know pretty much exactly what they’re saying without subtitles (though I know exactly what they’re saying ㅋㅋㅋ).  Anyways, check out LOST if you are looking for some entertainment.

How NOT To Eat Korean Food

Watch what this guy does, and do the exact opposite. And under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you ever spit up food on someone else’s rice. This is taken from “My Darling FBI” (쉿! 그녀에겐 비밀이에요).

Ending the semester

Well, it’s the end of the semester!  I’ve really enjoyed my business Korean course, I’ve learned a lot about how Korean companies operate and terms used in the business world.  I’ll make sure to post follow-ups on my class since I last posted about it.  I have a few more readings, journal articles and Mastering Business in Korea chapter reviews to post which I’ll do over the next few weeks along with my regular fun stuff.

Most importantly, I’m switching universities!  For many reasons, I have decided to switch from Brigham Young University to the University of Utah.  They don’t have a Korean degree, so I’ll be doing independent study with a professor there to continue learning Korean.  Since I get to help determine what I study, I’ll probably focus on reading articles and watching dramas.  I think those two things will help me both in a university setting and with making friends.

Anyways, I’ve had a really great semester and have really enjoyed all of your comments.

Korean self-introduction goes bad

A Japanese foreign exchange student gives her self introduction in Korean on her first day. The moral of this story? Don’t believe everything you hear and check what you do. This is taken from “My Tutor Friend 2.”

NEW: Hangeul Assistant

Hey all! I have been working really hard with Chris over at the Korean Wiki Project lately, so if you haven’t been over there go and check out what we’ve done so far.

I have been working on a project for the wiki which is very unique,I call it the Hangeul Assistant. It’s primary purpose is to showcase how Korean verbs get modified when various forms are added. If you type a verb, like 하다, it will show you how that verb looks like with a ton of examples (like 합니다). Along with the new forms, it will show you any changes in pronunciation. You can also type individual words or full sentences if you would like to see pronunciation changes with them.

Click here to try it. Make sure to come back and leave your feedback! Please remember it’s in the very early stages, so there are many rules that have not been added yet. If you see any verb forms that aren’t added correctly or pronunciation that isn’t correct please leave a comment.
