Remember that numa numa guy?  If you don’t, maybe this video (called “numa numa”) which currently has over 24 million views will refresh your memory.  The song was originally done by a group called ’O-Zone’ in Romanian.  This guy was HUGE, and I mean all over the Internet huge.  Well, whenever you have something that big you need to have some awesome Asian remakes!  You can see the slightly disterbing is-that-a-guy-or-a-girl Japanese version over here.  Not enough?  How about the Vietnamese version.  Or a Mandarin version.  Indonesian.  Thai.

The kid who did the numa numa video even got a part in Weezer’s new song, Pork and Beans.  You can see most of the Internet’s most popular people during the last few years sprinkled throughout the video.   That guy will live forever as long as YouTube is live.  Enjoy.

By the way, I learned 심봤다 from this video (what she shout’s when she sees the guy).  A friend told me that in Korea when people collected something like ginseng they would shout that when they found one because it was so precious.  Nowadays you can say it if you found something really good to be excited about (like in Hyun-Young’s case).

Just like my quick movie reviews, I’m doing this one because Full House was my first drama. It’s a great romantic-comedy where the two main actors start out hating each other but due to unseen circumstances are forced to live with each other. They make a great pair, complementing each other perfectly. Rain, probably the most famous male singer, plays the guy who doesn’t seem to care much about the girl and Hye-Kyo made it big through this drama with her great performance. This is a safe bet for anyone looking for a good K-Drama, I highly recommend it.
Culture Notes
Here’s a great little kids song that everyone knows. The main girl sings this out of desperation and later the guy sings it to make the girl laugh. It’s called The Three Bears.

The moral of the story? Getting plastic surgery is great! But really, it’s a great romantic-comedy. I put it up there with My Sassy Girl. The story is pretty simple; it’s about an overweight girl who wishes she was thinner in order to get the guy she wants. Finally, she decides to get plastic surgery after which she lives a totally different life posing as a different girl while trying to get the man she loved and hiding her previous identity.

There’s a lot to the plot, but there’s enough comedy to even it out. I haven’t found anyone that doesn’t like this movie so if you haven’t seen it, get it.

Culture Notes

Lots of Koreans cough up around $2000-4000 in order to get “double eyelid” surgery. Americans don’t have a concept of double- or single-eyelids (which is what most Koreans have). Some of my friends have done that surgery. Personally, I don’t see a big difference and wouldn’t care if someone got it or not.

This song is SO catchy. I find myself humming it a lot between classes. The music video is really long (almost half is just pre-show stuff) but well put together. Props to JYP for getting a major part in the video.

Culture Notes

Korean humor includes a lot of poop jokes. Although you will find that in some American media (like Dumb and Dumber) there isn’t much in the mainstream. In Korea you’ll find poop humor in anything from kids shows to music videos to movies. Koreans are much more natural with bodily functions. Their logic is that everyone has to do it so why be wierd about it? It did take me a while to get adjusted to it, I was never a big bathroom-joke kind of guy.
