Drink Till It’s Empty

stby_soju

KoreanClass101.com:
When you drink, you should not fill someone else’s glass until it’s empty.

Turn your head so your boss (or anyone older) won’t have to watch you drinking. This only applies in formal situations, usually your boss will ask you to be more comfortable (though many still turn their head, because it’s considered polite to still do it once you get permission not to). You know, now that I think of it, you see the main character of 엽기적인 그녀 do this when he drinks with his girlfriend’s dad.

송편

songpyun

Learning a language is much more than just words and sentences, those things are surrounded in thousands of years of traditions and customs. I almost focus too much on learning about Korean culture. I figure that if I know the culture then I will be able to relate to Koreans both in English and in Korean. By learning vocabulary and phrases you can only use it when you are speaking Korean (but that doesn’t lessen the importance of learning the language).

KoreanClass101.com:
Some say that if women make pretty 송편, then they will have pretty daughters and a good looking spouse.

Keep on practicing!

Vocabulary #1: Throw

familyguy

I will post vocabulary I have picked up recently as often as possible. I will also post where I learned it and any special method I use to remember it. I will also link each word to the dictionary definition.

Doing this has a few meanings for me. First, I have a personal record of what I’ve learned so I can go back and easily review. Second, anyone else can follow and see the methods I have used to learn Korean and pick up some vocab.

KoreanClass101.com:
면접 = an interview (I remember the first 한자 means ‘to face’ but I don’t know the second)
던지다 = to throw AND to pitch (I think of ‘don’t cheat’ when you throw the ball, the sound is kind of similar)
어울리다 = to suit (someone)

마왕 (K-Drama):
한심하다 = to be pitiful (ouch, the dad kept calling his son this!)

Family Guy (TV Show):
파리 목숨이다 = I’ll live a crappy life (I need to explain this one. For SOME reason beyond my knowledge, there were Korean subtitles randomly thrown into the show! Well, I didn’t know the phrase so I looked it up. The picture above is a screenshot of it.)
