Self Introduction Video

Here’s me just doing a basic introduction of myself in Korean. This is my first video posting to YouTube so hopefully it works fine.

I also learned how to add subtitles to movies so I created and added them. If you would like to see English or Korean subtitles with the movie, click the video to open the YouTube website and click the button at the bottom right of the video to select the appropriate language.

If all goes well, I’ll most likely be doing a video every once in a while. Enjoy!

Hello everyone, my name is Matt Strum. I’m American and 23 years old. I was born in ’85. I’ve lived in a lot of places. Since my dad worked for the U.S. Air Force, I’ve lived in Florida, Texas, Ohio, New York, Maryland, and Alaska. So, I’ve seen a lot of America. Also, since I taught Koreans in Canada for two years, I lived in Vancouver. I absolutely love languages. I’ve learned German, French, Chinese, and Korean. The foods I like the most are Spicy rice cake, spicy stew, kimbap black bean noodles, pork wraps, BBQ beef, vegetable mixed noodles, and flat-cake. I really want yo eat those right now! As for my hobbies, I program a lot. I make software and sell it online. It’s diary software. I like to watch Korean movies and dramas, hang out with friends, do sports (especially Ultimate Frisbee, tennis and running). When school’s not busy, I run 4 miles every day. I’m attending University right now. My major is Computer Engineering. I’m also studying business and Korean.

I’ve studied Korean for 3 years, but I’ve never been to Korea It’s sad, isn’t it? I love the Korean people, culture, country, everything. I’m watching The Devil right now. you’ll really like it. Other than that, I like Full House, Jewel in the Palace, Fantasy Couple, & Soulmate. A lot of Koreans don’t know Soulmate, but try watching it, it’s really fun. I really like 200 Pound Beauty, My Sassy Girl and The Classic. I think The Classic is the best. As for music, I like Big Bang and Epik High. These days, I really like Big Bang’s new song. The title is something like ‘Sunset Glow’.

My dream is to go to Korea. I might go to Seoul National University in a year but since my Korean isn’t that good, I need to practice a lot. So, I’ll make things like this and study a lot over the next year.

Why did I make this? Maybe I’ll look at it in a year and laugh and see how much I’ve progressed. I write about Korea every day in my blog about the dramas and movies I watched, vocabulary, or culture. I’ll write every day in that. If you want to read it, go to: http://www.mstrum.com/onmywaytokorea Have a good day, bye!

Vocabulary #1: Throw

familyguy

I will post vocabulary I have picked up recently as often as possible. I will also post where I learned it and any special method I use to remember it. I will also link each word to the dictionary definition.

Doing this has a few meanings for me. First, I have a personal record of what I’ve learned so I can go back and easily review. Second, anyone else can follow and see the methods I have used to learn Korean and pick up some vocab.

KoreanClass101.com:
면접 = an interview (I remember the first 한자 means ‘to face’ but I don’t know the second)
던지다 = to throw AND to pitch (I think of ‘don’t cheat’ when you throw the ball, the sound is kind of similar)
어울리다 = to suit (someone)

마왕 (K-Drama):
한심하다 = to be pitiful (ouch, the dad kept calling his son this!)

Family Guy (TV Show):
파리 목숨이다 = I’ll live a crappy life (I need to explain this one. For SOME reason beyond my knowledge, there were Korean subtitles randomly thrown into the show! Well, I didn’t know the phrase so I looked it up. The picture above is a screenshot of it.)
