Koreans singing and dancing in Every Nation, Every People

Too slow? View the standard (non-high quality) version here.

This was a great production that took place in Vancouver, Canada in May 2007 by the local community showcasing the diverse culture in the area.  I got to be in the Korean part where we wore hanbok (한복) (traditional Korean clothes) and danced and sang doraji (도라지) and jindo-arirang (진도 아리랑) although it’s hard to hear our voices over the accompaniment.  I got to be one of the white (as in color of the hanbok, no pun intended) servants.  You can see me at 1:48 walking behind some girls in the front of the servants with my shovel doing some grade-A shoveling.  At the end we do a traditional Korean bow.  Anyways, I hope you enjoy!

Here are the lyrics to the two songs in order:

도라지

도라지 도라지 백도라지
심심산천에 백도라지
한두 뿌리만 캐어도
대바구니 철 철 철 다 넘는다
에헤요 에헤요 에헤요
에야라난다 지화자 좋다
얼씨구 좋구나 내 사랑아

(we sing it twice, so you hear it again)

<후렴>

<후렴>

<후렴>

<후렴>

현영 (Hyun-Young) – 누나의 꿈 (Sister’s Dream)

Remember that numa numa guy?  If you don’t, maybe this video (called “numa numa”) which currently has over 24 million views will refresh your memory.  The song was originally done by a group called ’O-Zone’ in Romanian.  This guy was HUGE, and I mean all over the Internet huge.  Well, whenever you have something that big you need to have some awesome Asian remakes!  You can see the slightly disterbing is-that-a-guy-or-a-girl Japanese version over here.  Not enough?  How about the Vietnamese version.  Or a Mandarin versionIndonesianThai.

The kid who did the numa numa video even got a part in Weezer’s new song, Pork and Beans.  You can see most of the Internet’s most popular people during the last few years sprinkled throughout the video.   That guy will live forever as long as YouTube is live.  Enjoy.

By the way, I learned 심봤다 from this video (what she shout’s when she sees the guy).  A friend told me that in Korea when people collected something like ginseng they would shout that when they found one because it was so precious.  Nowadays you can say it if you found something really good to be excited about (like in Hyun-Young’s case).

(Psy) – We Are The One (Word Cup 2006)

Great music video!  North Koreans switch places with the Psy group members.  While they perform in the south, Psy is forced to sing and dance for Kim Jong-Il.  The funny thing is that something like this actually happened in the past (see the story about the abducted director here at the BBC).

(Epik High) – One

K.Will (feat. MC Mong) – 러브119 (Love 119)

Is the video broken?  Please comment so I can find a new copy.  Thanks!
